BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — A Bakersfield man convicted of killing former Kern High School District Police Chief Steve Alvidrez was sentenced Thursday to 15 years to life.
David Lilly, 38, was drunk when he slammed into Alvidrez’s motorcycle on Highway 99, leaving Alvidrez dead and his wife Ramona seriously injured, in June 2011.
Lilly fled to Mexico where he hid out for several years until cops caught him and brought him back to Kern County last year.
Lilly pleaded no contest to a second-degree murder charge, and told the court he understood the pain his actions caused to the victim’s family and friends.
