KUZZ “Cash Cow” Official Contest Rules
1. Sponsor / Station
The “KUZZ Cash Cow” contest (the “Contest”) is sponsored by Buck Owens Production Company, Inc. and operated by radio station KUZZ AM/FM (the “Station”).
2. Contest Period / Schedule
- The Contest will air twice each weekday, at approximately 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM (Pacific Time), unless otherwise announced.
- The Station reserves the right to modify, postpone, suspend, or cancel any particular play session or the overall Contest (in whole or in part) without prior notice.
3. Eligibility
- Open only to legal U.S. residents who are at least 18 years old at time of entry and who reside in the Station’s designated listening area (Kern County or otherwise as announced).
- Employees of Buck Owens Production Company, KUZZ AM/FM, its advertising/promotional agencies, participating sponsors, other radio stations in the Bakersfield / Kern County area, and their immediate family members or persons living in the same household are not eligible to participate or win.
- Only one (1) prize winner per household (or per individual) in any 30-day period may receive a cash or “grand prize.” (This is consistent with KUZZ’s general contest rules.)
4. How to Participate / Entry
- At the announced times (7:30 AM or 5:30 PM), the Station will solicit calls and designate a caller (e.g. “Caller 10”) to be the contestant.
- The designated caller must be the person who picks up the call and plays the game; no proxy calls or substitution by another person is allowed.
- The winner must provide truthful contact information if requested (name, address, phone number, etc.) and must confirm compliance with eligibility requirements.
5. Game Mechanics (“Cash Cow”)
- Once the contestant is on air, the Station will begin a running “jackpot” that increases in increments of $50 at regular intervals (as determined and announced by the host).
- At any time before the jackpot reaches a predetermined “maximum”, the contestant may audibly and definitively say “STOP” to terminate the game and lock in the amount collected thus far.
- If the contestant fails to say “STOP” (or does not audibly/definitively say it) before the jackpot reaches its maximum, the contestant loses all accumulated winnings for that play.
- Once “STOP” is properly declared, the game ends immediately and the contestant is entitled to the collected amount.
- The Station’s determination of whether the contestant’s spoken “STOP” is clear, unambiguous, and timely is final and binding.
- The maximum jackpot amount (i.e. the “total out” threshold) and the rate/time-interval for increases will be announced on-air at each play session.
- Only one jackpot attempt is permitted per play session; once a contestant plays, that session ends (regardless of outcome).
6. Winner Notification / Claiming Prize
- The contestant will be notified on-air whether they have won the collected amount (i.e. after a valid “STOP”) or lost (if “total out” occurs).
- The winner must claim the prize in person at the Station’s studio during regular business hours (unless other arrangements are approved by the Station).
- The winner must present valid government-issued photo ID and complete any and all required paperwork (e.g. affidavit of eligibility, release of liability, IRS Form W-9 if required) before the prize can be awarded.
- If a winner fails to claim the prize within 30 days of winning (or as otherwise specified), the prize is forfeited and becomes property of the Station.
- Prizes are non-transferable and may not be substituted for cash or other items, except at the Station’s sole discretion to substitute with a prize of comparable value.
7. Taxes / Responsibility
- All federal, state, and local taxes (including income taxes) associated with any prize are the sole responsibility of the winner.
- The Station may require the winner to complete IRS tax forms (e.g. Form W-9) for prizes valued at $600 or more.
- The winner consents, by accepting the prize, to the use of his/her name, voice, photograph and/or likeness by the Station and its sponsors for promotional or advertising purposes without further compensation.
8. General Conditions / Reservation of Rights
- The Station reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any participant who tampers with or abuses any aspect of the Contest, or who fails to comply with these rules.
- The Station is not liable for dropped calls, technical failures, delays, miscommunications, or other malfunctions. If the designated caller is disconnected or otherwise fails to complete the play, the Station may, at its discretion, designate the next eligible caller or cancel that play session.
- The Station may cancel, modify, or suspend the Contest (or any play session) at any time, without liability, if it becomes impractical or in violation of law or regulation.
- Any changes to the Contest rules will be publicly disclosed (on-air or via Station website) in advance.
- By participating, contestants waive and release the Station, its parent company, affiliates, advertising agencies, sponsors, and all of their officers, directors, employees, agents, successors and assigns from any and all liability, claims or damages arising from participation in the Contest or the awarding, possession, or use of any prize.
- All federal, state, and local laws apply. This Contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law.
- In any dispute, the Station’s decisions are final.
9. Publicity
- Winner agrees to permit the Station to use his or her name, city (or region), voice, photograph, and/or likeness in publicity and promotional materials without additional compensation, except where prohibited by law.
10. Odds of Winning
- The odds of a contestant becoming the designated caller (e.g. Caller 10) depend on the number of callers and the sequence of calls at the time of play.
