BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — Employees of the Bakersfield City School District are up in arms over how much of a raise they got, and how much of a bump district board members received.
In January, the BCSD board approved increasing their month stipend by nearly four times, from $787 to $3,000.
The board says the revision aligns with a new state bill regarding board member compensation.
On Tuesday, dozens of classified employees including bus drivers, mechanics, and custodians, expressed their disappointment after learning their pay increase would amount to only 1%.
Chris Cruz Boone was the only board member to vote against the massive pay hike for the board.
