TAFT, CA (KUZZ) — A Taft woman accused of setting a man on fire has entered a not guilty plea in court.
Magdalena Junes, 43, entered the plea to a charge of causing a fire resulting in great bodily injury on February 27, 2026.
The incident occurred January 22, 2026, during a get-together in the 700 block of Kern Street when Junes allegedly poured gasoline onto a fire pit where Billy Terry, 44, was standing, causing his clothes to ignite. Terry suffered third-degree burns over 70% of his body.
Junes reportedly told police she was tipsy before the incident, which she calls an accident.
