BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — Bakersfield has a new police chief.
City officials have announced Brent Stratton has been selected for the top spot at the Bakersfield Police Department.
Stratton currently serves as Assistant Chief and will replace Greg Terry who retires in April.
At a news conference Friday, Stratton, a 22-year veteran of the department, said his top priorities will be decreasing crime and insuring safety. He will also manage BPD’s $130 million budget.
The selection follows a series of community listening sessions to get the public’s input about the qualities necessary in a new police chief.
Stratton assumes the role May 1, 2026.
