SACRAMENTO, CA (KUZZ) –The day set aside to honor a now-disgraced Central Valley labor leader is no more.
On Thursday, Governor Gavin Newsom singed a bill into law changing the name of Cesar Chavez Day to Farmworkers Day.
The legislation authored by Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas and Senate President Pro Tem Monique Limón comes just hours after it passed the California Senate.
The vote comes as fallout continues across the state following recent sexual abuse allegations involving Chavez, who’s commemorative day was held each March 31st.
