BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — The Fourth of July holiday kept the Kern County Fire Department busy, with officials calling this year’s holiday one of the year’s busiest days.
The department boosted staffing by 179 personnel in anticipation of the holiday during which they responded to 357 emergency incidents including 203 fires, marking increases of 45 and 44 percent over last year.
The Kern County Emergency Communications Center handled nearly 1400 911 calls, up 38%.
Meanwhile. reports submitted through the county’s Illegal Fireworks Reporter portal dropped to 3500, down from 4400 last year.
