BAKERSFIELD, CA (KUZZ) — A 12-year-old girl was killed and three other people were injured Saturday evening after being struck by a vehicle in southwest Bakersfield, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
Officers responded to the 3800 block of Harris Road around 6:36 p.m. for a report of several pedestrians struck by a vehicle.
Police said a red sedan was traveling eastbound on Harris Road when it struck four people crossing the street at Marin Street in an unmarked crosswalk.
The victims included the 12-year-old girl, another juvenile and two adults. All four were taken to a hospital for treatment. The girl was later pronounced dead.
The Kern County Coroner’s Office will release the girl’s identity at a later time. A GoFundMe account identified her only as Faith. The fundraiser was created to help cover funeral expenses.
Witnesses told authorities that children and families were trick-or-treating in the area at the time of the collision.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said. It has not been determined whether speed or impairment were factors in the crash.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the Bakersfield Police Department at 661-327-7111.
