Homeland Security and ICE used their weight to keep the Mesa Verde Detention Center open a little longer. It was due to close next week as the agreement between the GEO Group and the city of McFarland was ending. The facility in Bakersfield houses immigration detainees, who could have been transferred out of the jurisdiction, the new agreement keeps Mesa Verde open another year.
