2 girls held in Southern California school assault, 1 sought

MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (AP) – Two 12-year-old girls have been arrested and a third is being sought for allegedly assaulting another student and a teacher at a Southern California school.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department says Monday that administrators at Sunnymead Middle School in Moreno Valley reported an assault to the campus resource officer on Oct. 2.

A department statement says the investigation led to identification of three girls who allegedly entered a classroom and assaulted a student and teacher.

Two were taken into custody on Friday and booked into juvenile hall on multiple battery charges.

It’s the second high-profile school violence incident in Moreno Valley in recent weeks.

Two 13-year-old boys are facing voluntary manslaughter charges after the death of a boy who was assaulted Sept. 16 at Landmark Middle School.
