Detectives with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the suspicious death of a person at a home south of Bakersfield.

Sgt. Joel Swanson said they were called west of Shafter and Ashe roads at around 10 a.m. Tuesday. When they arrived at the home, they found a woman in her 80s inside.

“They located some suspicious injuries and called detectives out to the scene,” Swanson said. “Detectives have now taken over and are currently investigating.”

He said the woman’s son is a possible person of interest.

“She currently lives here with a roommate and her son,” Swanson said. “Both are in the process of being interviewed at this time.”

Swanson wouldn’t say why deputies thought the injuries were suspicious.

The woman’s identity has not been revealed.
