The Kern County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that a man gunned down by a sheriff’s deputy in Wasco died from multiple gunshot wounds.

33-year-old David Garcia was killed in his home on 11th and E streets Monday during an altercation, where he’s alleged to have brandished a knife. Sheriff’s spokesman Ray Pruitt said Garcia had been shot at least once after lunging at the deputy.

The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave.
