Man At Large After Robbing Bank

Police are looking for a man armed with a revolver who jumped the counter of a bank near central Bakersfield, triggering the lockdown of several nearby schools after he left the scene with cash.

Sgt. Joe Grubbs said it happened at the Safe 1 Credit Union on Oak and Palm streets just after 1 p.m.

“It was a takeover-style robbery at the bank,” Grubbs said. “He has since left the bank, and no one is injured.”

Grubbs said officers received conflicting reports regarding the description of the suspect.

He also said it’s believed he left the scene in a getaway car, but he wasn’t able to confirm that. Shots were not fired.
