Center for Biological Diversity: EPA Investigating California Wells for Illegal Dumping

The Center for Biological Diversity says the EPA is investigating over 530 wells in California accused of dumping oilfield waste into clean water.

Patrick Sullivan represents the group and said the epicenter of the investigation is in Kern County.

“There are hundreds of Kern County wells that are involved in this investigation, and there are also wells elsewhere in the state,” he said.

Les Clark with the Independent Oil Producers Agency said the claims are bogus.

“As far as things that are supposedly going on in Kern County, I, as of yet, haven’t seen anything that would indicate that there’s contamination,” he said.

The Center for Biological Diversity is urging that the wells in question be shut down. They’re not saying exactly which wells are implicated in the investigation.
