Police have arrested the suspected driver in a southeast Bakersfield hit-and-run that killed a bicyclist.
Sergeant Joe Grubbs says they received a tip early Thursday morning about a vehicle parked less than a mile from the scene of the crash in a garage on Lost Hills Way that was owned by 28-year-old Jonathan Montiel.
“They executed a search warrant on a residence, and inside the garage of that residence they located a vehicle that had damage that was consistant with being involved with a collision,” he said.
Montiel was jailed for vehicular manslaughter and not having a license.
43-year-old Saul Ayala died near South Union Avenue and Panama Lane on Tuesday.
