The Boys and Girls Club of Kern County on Niles Street in Bakersfield is getting closer to opening its new green space.
Resource development director Maggie Cushine says the kids planted trees and shrubs on Monday, and are looking forward to playing in the backyard when it’s ready in April.
“We’re so excited – we can’t wait for the kids to come out here,” she said. “The grass is in, the fence is almost done, the plants are in, and next we’re trying to raise some additional capital to get some park benches and picnic tables.”
The club is spending a nearly $400,000 grant to construct the new facility.
