Assemblyman Rudy Salas of Bakersfield has introduced legislation that would establish a tax credit for homeowners willing to dig up their lawns for drought-resistant landscaping and artificial turf.

If approved, the so-called “cash-for-grass” rebates will range from 40 cents to $3 per square foot.
