Opening statements have been made in the trial of an accused rapist that prosecutors say terrorized east Bakersfield residents in 2013.

Billy Ray Johnson is accused of sexually assaulting three women and beating a fourth that summer. The defense says there’s not enough evidence to link Johnson to the crimes.
