The doors are now open at San Joaquin Community Hospital’s new Quest Imaging Center on Chester Avenue in downtown Bakersfield.

Lorenzo Michaels is the director of outpatient radiology there and says the facility features all-digital technology and a Breast Center that has 3-D mammography equipment.

“Just that by itself allows us to find about 40 percent more cancers than anybody else can find using regular mammography,” Michaels said on Wednesday. “It’s just impossible to find certain cancers without this technology.”

The center is one of the only places in Bakersfield to get a 3-D mammogram – the other two facilities are on Stockdale Highway and in Shafter.
