Stocks were mostly flat Wednesday, as investors weighed news from Tuesday about the Federal Reserve opting to remain cautious regarding possible future interest rate hikes.

The Dow was up 15 points, the Nasdaq lost a point and the S&P 500 fell less than two points.

American benchmark crude gained $1.71, finishing at $50.99 a barrel.
