Population Booms in Bakersfield

The U.S. Census Bureau says Bakersfield is one of America’s fastest-growing cities, swelling roughly 41 percent in the last decade.

David Lymon is with the Bakersfield Convention and Visitors Bureau and says job availability has been on the key factors in the city’s growth.

“The cost to do business and live in Bakersfield is significantly lower than many other places in California,” he said.

He says Kern County’s central location also helps.

Fontana and Irvine also made the list.

At 90 percent, Gilbert, Ariz., was the fastest-growing city during that time-frame.
