Kern County supervisors have agreed to investigate several cost-cutting measures amid sharply lower tax revenue thanks to plunging oil prices.

County administrative officer John Nilon says his office will consider department reorganization, crowd-funding certain projects, and a review of the county’s internship and volunteer programs.

“These goals are consistent with the county’s vision of maintaining a customer-centered government, and represent the principals of responsible, accountable and transparent government,” he said.

Supervisors will formally discuss privatizing county libraries next week. Several people spoke against those plans Tuesday.
