Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in downtown Bakersfield that left a 47-year-old man dead.

Sgt. Joe Grubbs says they were called to the Hart Hotel near 19th and M streets at around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

“Once officers arrived, we have some witnesses that indicated that they heard what sounded like an officer ordering an individual to drop a knife,” he said. “They, then, heard some gunshots.”

Grubbs says the man was yelling and acting erratically before officers got there. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave.
