Plans are in motion to permanently close the Kern County library branch on Tobias Street in Kernville.
Nancy Kerr is the director of the library system and says the closure discussions started when the roof collapsed at the facility last December.
“While it was closed, we’re really discussed it,” she said. “It’s really rare to have two libraries less than five miles apart in a rural area.”
The other county library Kerr is referring to is two miles away in Wofford Heights.
She says the move will save the county about $11,000 annually.
A closure proposal will be floated by supervisors in the coming weeks.
