Brown Signs Drought Legislation, Impacts Will Be Seen Locally

Gov. Brown has signed a $1 billion infrastructure package aimed at softening the blow future drought and assisting currently drought-stricken regions of the state.

Brent Walthall is with the Kern County Water Agency and says multiple long-term projects are earmarked for the county through an integrated regional water management plan.

“It includes projects that will improve water conservation for irrigation, it’ll improve canal lining, and it’ll allow water to move around our county more efficiently,” he said.

Walthall says money is also set aside for groundwater banking.

About $75 million will be used for people that need immediate assistance.
