Stocks broke a four-day losing streak after comments from the Federal Reserve about remaining cautious about raising interest rates.

The Dow was up 34 points, the Nasdaq added 28 and the S&P 500 added five. American crude gave up its Thursday gains, down five percent to $48.87.
