More Dumping, Graffiti Seen at Sequoia

The U.S. Forest Service says it’s noticing a spike in illegal dumping and graffiti at Sequoia National Forest.

Spokesman Cody Norris says the additional garbage throughout the park and tags in Ant Canyon were spotted by volunteers about two weeks ago.

“There are consequences when they go out and either damage forest service facilities or spray paint rocks in a national forest,” he said. “It’s actually considered destruction of government property.”

He says additional forest service personnel and law enforcement have been dispatched to keep an eye on the problem.

Graffiti and dumping fines can range up to $350, plus the cost of clean-up.
