The Bakersfield Water Resources Department is trying to figure out the best way to meet a mandate by Gov. Brown to slash water consumption by 25 percent.
Director Jason Meadors says the city has done well conserving water in the past, and says it’s likely that only tweaks to policy will be needed to reach the new goal.
“We have had some months where we have exceeded the 25 percent goal,” he said. “Other months haven’t been as good, but I think it is achievable.”
Additional restrictions, including fewer days for watering grass and landscaping, will be considered in an ordinance that will be drafted by the water board next Wednesday.
