The California Energy Commission has approved strict standards for new faucets and toilets that could save up to 100 billion gallons of water annually.

The regulations adopted Wednesday call for kitchen faucets to not flow past 1.8 gallons per minute, and toilets to not exceed 1.28 gallons per flush.
