Stocks increased Wednesday as investors responded a memo that revealed a split among Federal Reserve policymakers over whether to raise interest rates.

The Dow was up 27 points, the Nasdaq gained 41 and the S&P 500 added six. Benchmark crude plunged nearly seven percent, finishing at $50.42.
