Teachers with the Bakersfield City School District have voted in favor of a new contract that may keep them on the job until 2016.
Michelle Johnson with Bakersfield Elementary Teachers Association said the vote was held Tuesday afternoon.
“We had 848 that voted yes and 85 that voted no,” she said.
About 60 percent of teachers cast ballots.
If district trustees approve the contract during a special meeting set for Monday afternoon, certified staff members will see a seven percent salary bump over the next two years.
