Assemblyman Rudy Salas of Bakersfield has been recognized as the 2014 legislator of the year by the California Police Chiefs Association.

The group applauded Salas for tackling public safety issues, and for authoring a bill cracking down on gambling at Internet cafes. The gaming bill was signed into law last year.
