Recology Fined For Issue at Marysville Landfill

The new owner of a Lamont recycling center has been fined $440,000 by the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Board after stormwater-collection equipment failed at its landfill in Marysville.

Eric Potashner is the vice president of Recology and says what happened at the Yuba Sutter Landfill will not happen at Community Recycling.

“What happened up in Marysville is not an apples-to-apples comparison of the operation down in Lamont,” he said.

He says the company fixed the problem in Marysville by installing bigger tanks and a better pumping system.

Prior to Recology taking over, two brothers died at Community Recycling in 2011.
