Bakersfield Air Quality Bad, But Getting Better

The American Lung Association says air quality is improving in the Bakersfield area, but not enough to shake off another failing grade in the group’s “State of the Air” report for 2015.

Heather Dumais is a San Joaquin Valley air policy coordinator and says the report was compiled using information from EPA sensors in the county.

“We used quality-assured data from the years 2011, 2012 and 2013,” she said.”

Dumais says reduced emissions are leading to better air in the area, with Bakersfield having 50 percent fewer unhealthy ozone days than it had in 2000.
