Stocks were lower as investors reacted to a weaker-than-expected growth report and word about the Fed being uncertain as to whether they want to raise interest rates.

The Dow dropped 75 points, the Nasdaq lost 32 and the S&P 500 gave up eight.

Benchmark crude gained 2.7 percent to $58.58.
