The State Water Resources Control Board will discuss proposed regulations on oil and gas injection wells May 19 in Sacramento.

The board wants a groundwater monitoring program after industry regulators pledged to close about 2,000 wells that were drilling into aquifers. Many of those wells are in Kern County.
