Baby Now in Critical Condition, Shooter At Large

A then-unborn baby grazed by a bullet during an east Bakersfield shooting that hospitalized the child’s mother and another man is now in critical condition at Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera.

Kern County Sheriff’s detectives say the child was successfully delivered at Kern Medical Center after the Tuesday shooting at Oswell and Monterey streets. The mother is now in fair condition, and the man remains in stable condition.

No arrests have been made and detectives don’t have a motive for the shooting.

Detectives describe the shooter as a man in his mid-20s who was wearing red shorts and a white tank top at the time of the incident. Two other suspects were also in the vehicle that fled the scene, which is described as a gray Honda four-door with tinted windows and black and silver rims.

Those with more information are being urged to call the Kern County Sheriff’s Office at (661) 861-3110 or the secret witness line at (661) 322-4040.
