City Presents $576 Million Budget Proposal

Representatives with the city of Bakersfield have proposed a $576 million budget for the 2015-2016 fiscal year, which is about 10.6 percent lower than this year’s revised budget.

City Manager Alan Tandy says there aren’t any surprises in the document, primarily because of lower tax revenue coming into the city.

“It’s pretty much a status-quo document,” he said. “There are no new positions that are proposed to be added to our compliment.”

The proposal, however, does call for a 4.8 percent increase in refuse rates and a 2.4 hike in sewer rates.

It also sets aside $21 million to fix surface streets not covered by the Thomas Roads Improvement Program.
