About 3,000 people made the trip to the Icardo Center to chow down on steaks, chicken and brats for Cal State-Bakersfield’s athletic department.

Ziggy Siegfried is CSU-B’s interim athletic director and says Thursday’s downpour didn’t keep people away from the 43rd-annual spring barbecue.

“(Even) with all the rain, and, you know, I’m soaking wet, the line is still out to the parking lot,” he said.

Siegfried says he was expecting the event to raise at least $80,000, which would be enough to fund five scholarships.
