City firefighters are complying with a state mandate to use less water, after Bakersfield was ordered to reduce its consumption by 36 percent.
Danny Brown is a battalion chief with the Bakersfield Fire Department and says his agency outlined a water-savings program before Gov. Brown presented his 25 percent statewide order.
“Our stations are falling right in line, as far as watering our grass on the assigned days that we’re supposed to,” he said. “We’ve limited the amount of water usage, as far as washing our rigs go, and everything now has nozzles.”
Brown also says firefighters are using less water while fighting fires. The Kern County Fire Department says it’s following similar guidelines.
