“Morphallaxis” Knocks Local Girl Out of Nat’l Spelling Bee

A forgotten “L” kept a Norris Middle School student from advancing to the finals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Three-time Kern County champion Eesha Sohail of Bakersfield misspelled the word “morphallaxis” in the national semifinals Thursday. The word refers to the re-growth of lost or dead tissue in organisms.
