Man, Businesses Accused of Defrauding Vets

The Kern County District Attorney’s Office says a restraining order has been issued against a man accused of using deceptive practices to target military veterans through his local businesses.

Deputy district attorney John Mitchell says Michael McWilliams advertised benefits assistance through Ally Senior Care and Senior Veterans Benefit Advocates, but only provided light housework.

“In the course of doing that, he made false statements to the VA, and he billed military veterans and their spouses for services that he did not provide,” he said.

A lawsuit has also been filed against McWilliams, who has similar operations in four other valley counties.
