The Kern County Sheriff’s Office says a woman is dead after being struck by a motorist on a darkened portion of Wasco Avenue, about a quarter-mile south of Poso Drive.

Sgt. Ian Chandler says the person who hit the pedestrian has been cooperative with the investigation into the crash, which happened before 5 a.m. Monday.

“He’s the one that called immediately as soon as it occurred, he attempted to render first aid until we arrived on scene, and he has been very cooperative with this investigation,” he said.

Chandler says investigators aren’t sure why the victim was in the middle of the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
