Firefighters have contained a 15-acre brush fire that forced evacuations and shut down a lane of Interstate 5 near Lebec.

Capt. Tom Ellison with the Kern County Fire Department said 25 structures were threatened by Friday’s fire near Lebec Drive, which started after 4 p.m.

“There were no structures destroyed, and we had one structure that had some minor damage,” he said.

Ellison said over 50 firefighters from Kern County, Los Angeles County and the U.S. Forest Service were called. None were hurt while fighting the fire.

Firefighters will monitor the site over the weekend. Ellison said a cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.
