The Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra has named a 31-year-old as its new conductor, capping off a two-year hiring process.

Stilian Kirov beat out 160 applicants for the position. The Bulgarian-born man and former associate conductor of the Seattle Symphony formally start with the organization in July.
