Ground has been broken on a 44-unit luxury apartment building at 17th and O streets in downtown Bakersfield.
City councilman Bob Smith is investing in the 17th Place Townhomes and says the $6.7 million complex will be a residential development catalyst.
“I’ve been in Bakersfield for 35 years and we’ve had a lot of office buildings built downtown, but I haven’t seen any upscale housing,” he said. “So, this will fulfill that need.”
Smith says site work is already underway, and construction should be completed within the next 12 to 15 months.
