A man is jailed after the Kern County Sheriff’s Office says he led a chase in a stolen car that hit 60 mph through the Kern River Canyon.

Sheriff’s spokesman Ray Pruitt said it started after 23-year-old Jacob Potochnik was pulled over by a Kern High School District officer at around 7 a.m. Thursday on Highway 178 near Mile Marker 33.

“As soon as our deputy arrived on scene to assist, the driver of the vehicle, who had been driving erratically, fled,” he said.

Pruitt says Potochnik was arrested in a rural neighborhood after crashing through a fence and fleeing on foot.
