The Bakersfield City Council will consider an ordinance that would ban the sale and possession of “spice,” “bath salts” and other synthetic drugs.
City Attorney Ginny Gennaro said a draft of the law was discussed Monday during a legislative and litigation committee meeting.
“The committee voted 3-0 to move the ordinance on to the council for consideration Wednesday night on first reading,” she said.
If the ordinance passes a second reading tentatively scheduled for July 22, Gennaro said it will take effect in August.
Taft was the first city to ban the chemicals after passing an ordinance in February.
