A bill that would set gas leak response guidelines for county, state and private groups has passed a Senate committee with bipartisan support.

The bill is scheduled to be heard by another committee July 15. Assemblyman Rudy Salas of Bakersfield drafted the bill amid confusion after a line rupture in Arvin last year that displaced eight families.
