Arson investigators are calling a fire at a vacant apartment in a home on 34th Street and Jewett Avenue in Bakersfield “suspicious” after it caused $50,000 damage.

It happened before 3 p.m. Tuesday. City firefighters had the fire out in about an hour.

No injuries were reported.
